"I'm Not Giving Up" - Track 3
Rob...
After we sang "I stand in awe" I found myself reminded of the passage in Mark 5, (and obviously the Kevin Prosch song) where the woman reaches out for the hem of Jesus's garment, recognising He was the answer to her problems. She was so desperate in her situation that despite the law at the time that meant she was forbidden to be out in public she pushed through the crowds to reach Him. She only had to touch His cloak and she was healed. Lee carried on using references from the blind Bartimaeus story at the end of Mark 10 where his desperation for Jesus made him shout over the noise of the crowd: "Though my friends may say "stay silent" - I cry to you". Even though he was rebuked for making so much noise he continued to cry out for his healing: "son of David have mercy on me".
At the time of the song we had been praying a long time for the healing of one of the leaders and a dear friend. I found a new determination in my spirit to press on for the miracle we had been waiting for and was expressing this through the song. "I'm not giving up". John has sadly since passed away so now the song has new meaning for me. Even though we tragically lost this particular battle I will not give up pushing on for the miracles that are to be found in the power of Jesus. The enemy would so love to see us shy away out of fear of defeat but if Jesus promises us "greater things than these" then "no matter whats thrown at me, I'm not giving up."
