The Broader Leadership Team – BLT

Kingsland Church Colchester affectionately call their Broader Leadership Team the BLT. Alongside them there are a group of Trustee Directors – get to know more about them here:

Kate Orr – Children and Youth Coordinator
Kate has always worked with children, right through University and now at Kingsland too. She is an archeologist in Colchester so she is enthusiastically helping us discover our past. Volunteering here she throws herself right in with the children and youth and helps bring us right up to date, not only with the activities but also the with our child protection policy and best practice.

Chris Franklin – Children and Youth Coordinator
Chris first started working with young people on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and when he moved to Colchester continued his passion for youth work with the children and youth at Kingsland because it is just so much fun! Chris is a Project Manager at a local Steel company, in his spare time he keeps really busy with his motorbikes, hill walking, swimming – he’s an active guy. He is married to Bethan and they have a son, Reuben.

Jamie Kidd – Evangelism
Jamie is a full time evangelist with Avanti Ministries and a student at Spurgeons College. His background as a paratrooper and his close shaves with death were life changing experiences which helped bring him to faith. He now has a burning passion to spread the Gospel to the lost and this has taken him around the world and into prisons, orphanages, rehabilitation centres, churches and military camps. He also has a heart to encourage individuals and the church to be active in sharing their faith and the Good news. He is married to Amy and they have a young family.

Chris Cotterrill – Hospitality Coordinator “I have two passions, cooking and welcoming people! On a Sunday morning you can usually find me welcoming new people to the church and helping people to really feel at home. For the Alpha Course a small group of us provide the evening meal, it is great to share food and it is lovely way of welcoming people and helping them to feel at home”. Chris has been part of the BLT for more than 5 years. She is married to Robin and helps in his financial work with administration as well as being a landlady for students in Colchester.

Bernie Andrew – Prayer Coordinator Bernie joined the BLT in 2008. “At Kingsland Church my family and I find a real sense of freedom and worship, God is ‘in the house’. I have such a wide base of friends there, many of whom I would never had met if I hadn’t been part of Kingsland in Colchester.” Bernie is married to Margaret and they have three children. He is a senior buyer for a household name in lawn and garden care, traveling to Europe and the Far East on a regular basis for his work.

Keith Rush – Prayer Coordinator Keith joined the BLT in 2008. “It’s good to be part of team that’s all going in the same direction. With Bernie we look at prayer and prophetic ministry. I really enjoy seeing people come alive in this and increase in their faith as they engage with God.” Keith is a director in a local firm of Architects where many of their projects are related to churches, community halls and housing.

Carlene Cornish – Pastoral Coordinator
An infectious lady of God from South Africa, Carlene looks after the practical side of pastoring: coordinating the cooking of meals and help for those in the church who need a little extra help after illness or someone to visit to share a cuppa and pray together. They say if you want a job done well give it to a busy lady and Carlene is certainly that as a lecturer in Heath and Social Care at Colchester Institute, she is married to Jon and has two young daughters, topping it off is her constant studying - she hopes one day to complete a PHD in criminology

Andy Courtier – Treasurer
Andy keeps a close eye on the church finances, ensuring that giving is confidential and everything is accounted for and adds up! As a Commercial Manager for a bank, he was the obvious man for the job. He is a Trustee Director for the church. Andy is married to Hazel and they have three children all studying in sixth form and University.

Kayode Alaka – Chair of Trustees
Child protection is really important to Kayode, being a father of three, he ensures that the church welcomes and cares for the children and has good child protection practices in place. Kayode and his wife Temi, originally from Nigeria, have been part of Kingsland Church in Colchester since 2000; they were drawn to the church because of its family friendly nature and informality that makes them feel right at home. Kayode is Chairman of the trustees of the church and by profession is an Accountant in the NHS Colchester hospital.

As well as being trustees of the church, Kayode and Andy serve on the BLT. The other Trustee Directors are Neil Loxley and Rob Cotterrill from the Core Team and Margret Andrew who deals with our secretarial needs.
